MTN Nigeria Communications PLC has announced that subscribers who have not provided their National Identity Numbers (NINs) will face restrictions on network usage by 28 February 2024.
The company stated that this action aligns with an industry-wide directive, compelling phone lines without associated NINs to be barred. The directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) instructs MTN to implement these measures. Subscribers with submitted but unverified NINs face potential restrictions on or before 29 March 2024, and those with less than five lines linked to an unverified NIN may be barred by 15 April 2024.
All affected subscribers must complete biometric and biodata verification before their lines are reinstated. MTN is actively engaging with subscribers to encourage NIN submission and is enhancing service outlets to facilitate a smoother verification process. The company expresses commitment to complying with NCC’s directive and supporting the National Identity Management Commission’s efforts. MTN urges subscribers without linked NINs to take prompt action through the nearest MTN outlet or digital channels before the specified deadlines.
