The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the apprehension of 59 suspected drug dealers in Sokoto, including the alleged mastermind behind the killing of one of its operatives.

Revealing these developments on Friday, the NDLEA Commander in the state, Muhammad Iro, disclosed that the unnamed suspect had been previously arrested in January at Bagarawa Village in Bodinga Local Government Area. Iro recounted that during the initial arrest, the suspect managed to escape with the assistance of villagers, leading to an attack on NDLEA personnel and the tragic killing of one officer.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the lack of community support, Iro emphasized the critical importance of public awareness regarding their responsibilities. He highlighted the paradox wherein the community, instead of assisting in the arrest of a drug dealer detrimental to the future of their children, attacked NDLEA personnel, resulting in the death of an officer after the suspect’s forcible release.

The commander underscored that the arrested suspect had been on the wanted lists of both the NDLEA and the Nigerian Police. Iro provided assurance that the suspect would face the full force of the law, and thorough investigations would be conducted to identify any accomplices involved.
