President Bola Tinubu has officially administered the oath of office to Musa Adamu, the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The inauguration occurred in the State House Council Chambers, preceding the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Alongside Adamu, Professor Tunji Olaopa was sworn in as the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), accompanied by eleven other commission members.
According to a citation presented by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the newly designated ICPC Chairman previously served as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Jigsaw State from 2019 to 2023. Professor Olaopa, the recently appointed FCSC Chairman, hails from Oyo State and brings significant academic and administrative experience to the role, having served as a Permanent Secretary in five ministries.
The sworn-in FCSC members represent various states, including Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Niger, the FCT, Jigawa, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, and Oyo. The FEC meeting promptly followed the swearing-in ceremony.
Ngelale clarified that the Senate would duly screen the nomination of the chairmen and members. The appointments were prompted by the outgoing Chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave starting November 4, 2023, ahead of the tenure’s expiration on February 3, 2024.
Ngelale added that the new ICPC Chairman’s confirmation would be sought from the Nigerian Senate, and Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu’s appointment as Secretary of the Commission takes immediate effect, as the position doesn’t require Senate confirmation.
Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the new ICPC Chairman, has initiated significant reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019 and holds degrees in Law, including a doctorate. He was also designated as a senior Advocate of Nigeria in October 2023.
