Idris Bello Bakori, the Resident Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) overseeing Bauchi and Gombe states, has called upon local government chairmen in the Northeast to collaborate more effectively in combating corruption at the grassroots level.
He emphasized that addressing corruption is pivotal for ultimately resolving the issue of insecurity prevalent in the region.
This appeal was made during Bakori’s address at the Northeast Local Government Development Conference held in Bauchi. He pointed out that various minor security challenges emerging in the Northeast have hindered efforts to eradicate the Boko Haram insurgency.
Bakori attributed the surge in cattle rustling, banditry, and kidnapping in the Northeast to the increased pressure by security agencies on perpetrators, a shift from their previous prevalence in the Northwestern part of the country.
Professor Mansur Usman Malumfashi, in his presentation, underscored the importance of actively involving women in key development initiatives. He emphasized that development projects at the grassroots level should be community-driven and tailored to the specific needs and priorities of the people, thereby empowering women to fulfill their social and community responsibilities effectively.
