The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully uncovered a significant shipment of illicit substances destined for Europe, the United Arab Emirates, and Asia.
In a statement released on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi disclosed that the intercepted contraband included various quantities of methamphetamine and opioids cleverly concealed in the hems of new jeans trousers, dolls, buttons, local soap, and even tins of Milo beverage.
Operatives from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) carried out the operation at courier houses in Lagos, leading to the confiscation of tramadol 225mg hidden in the hems of new jeans trousers en route to Cyprus, cannabis sativa cleverly concealed in doll heads bound for Dubai, sachets of tramadol 225mg buried in tins of Milo beverage headed to the UAE, and another shipment of the same drug concealed in local soap also destined for the UAE.
Further discoveries included a consignment of methamphetamine concealed in buttons en route to Hong Kong and a shipment of another illicit substance originating from Florida, USA.
In addition to these findings, NDLEA operatives in Lagos successfully arrested a drug kingpin, Okechukwu Ogala, aged 56, who specializes in exploiting and recruiting young citizens to export meth to Asian countries. Ogala was apprehended at the Blue Moon Hotel in the Okota area of Lagos in possession of 60 wraps of methamphetamine weighing 1.009 kilograms.
Another operation in Lagos resulted in the recovery of 393 kilograms of cannabis in a shop at Akala, Mushin. A suspect named Justin Enuonye, dealing in Canadian Loud, was apprehended by the police at Victoria Island and subsequently transferred to the Lagos Command of NDLEA, along with 154 parcels weighing 92 kilograms.
Furthermore, a team of NDLEA operatives intercepted a vehicle in the Oyingbo area of Lagos, recovering 108 kilograms of cannabis. Additionally, 675 kilograms of the same substance were seized from the store of a wanted dealer, Wahab Olota, in the Adedoja area of Mushin, Lagos. The agency continues to demonstrate its commitment to curbing illicit drug trafficking and maintaining public safety.
