It was a sad encounter when the lifeless body of Umar Ibrahim, a Fulani leader who had gone missing on Wednesday, was discovered in an abandoned well in the Jokom community within Mangu town, located in the Mangu local government area (LGA) of Plateau state.
This unsettling development has intensified tension in the area.
Before his tragic demise, Umar Ibrahim held the significant position of Ciroma in the Kumbun district of Mangu LGA in Plateau state. Captain Oya James, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, a security task force dedicated to maintaining peace in the state, confirmed the distressing incident.
Providing more context, the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN) revealed that the deceased had disappeared after leaving a hospital on Wednesday to purchase food for his ailing wife, who was undergoing treatment. Garba Abdullahi, the state chairman of the association, recounted the discovery of their leader’s body.
“He visited his wife at the sickbay in Mangu. Around 6 pm on Wednesday, he went out to buy food for her but couldn’t return. After searching for four days, the body was found in an abandoned well close to the hospital. The corpse was recovered together with soldiers attached to Operation Safe Haven, who have been maintaining peace in the area.”
Abdullahi urged members to maintain composure, stressing the importance of adhering to the law and collaborating with security agencies. He called on authorities to swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous act, ensuring that they face the full force of justice.
