The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to skit makers and other content creators, urging them to refrain from portraying its operatives as bullies and using the Commission’s operational identities illegally and irresponsibly.
In response to a viral video titled “EFCC and Army Wahala,” the EFCC denounced the video as a misguided representation of the operational conduct of the commission. In a statement released on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, expressed concern that the video depicted supposed EFCC operatives unleashing terror on “suspects,” describing it as not only embarrassing but also a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the EFCC.
Oyewale emphasized that EFCC operatives are not bullies but are trained as refined, modern law enforcement officers who uphold decency, civility, and respect for members of the public, including suspects of economic and financial crimes.
The spokesperson issued a renewed warning to skit makers, cautioning them against the unauthorized use of the EFCC’s identities for their creative work. Oyewale emphasized that the Commission will take legal action against anyone caught using its operational identities without proper authorization.
It’s noteworthy that in June of this year, the EFCC had previously warned content creators, movie producers, and skit makers to refrain from using the agency’s branded jackets, symbols, and insignia without proper authorization.
