Supreme Court Sets Date for Atiku’s Appeal Against President Tinubu’s Victory

The Supreme Court has set a date for the hearing of Atiku Abubakar’s appeal, where he is challenging President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, October 23.

On the same day, the court will also consider a motion by Atiku, in which he seeks to present new evidence to support his claim that President Bola Tinubu submitted a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to a notice obtained by Channels Television on Thursday, the Supreme Court has fixed the hearing for 9 a.m. on that date. Both Atiku’s legal team and President Tinubu’s representatives will address the court’s panel of seven Justices, focusing on whether the court has the authority to grant such a request. Lawyers from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who are also respondents in the motion, will present their arguments regarding the request’s compliance with the country’s Constitution and the Electoral Act of 2022.

Atiku aims to introduce academic records of Tinubu, which were provided to him by Chicago State University on Monday, October 2. These 32-page documents were released in response to a court order from Judge Nancy Maldonado of the District Court of Illinois, Eastern Division, in Illinois, United States of America.
