President Bola Tinubu has given the green light to the appointment of Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi as the Mandate Secretary for the newly established Women Affairs Secretariat under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
This announcement was conveyed by Mr. Anthony Ogunleye, the Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, through a statement released in Abuja on Monday.
In her new capacity, Benjamins-Laniyi is poised to play a pivotal role in promoting the welfare and empowerment of women and children in the Federal Capital Territory, aligning with the FCTA’s commitment to this cause. Her appointment is expected to bolster the already capable administrative team led by Minister Wike and Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud.
Born in 1965 in Ogun, Mrs. Benjamins-Laniyi’s appointment is a recognition of her outstanding qualifications and her unwavering dedication to public service. With over 35 years of experience as a communications consultant, social entrepreneur, international mentor, and environmentalist, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.
Her educational journey began at Queens College, Lagos, and culminated in her graduation in English from the University of Ibadan in 1989. Beyond her academic achievements, she has made significant contributions to society as a prominent compere and renowned motivational speaker.
Her passion for addressing social issues, particularly those affecting women and children, is evident in her remarkable body of work. Additionally, her commitment to women’s political participation is well-documented, including her bid for a senatorial position within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022.
Furthermore, in her role as the Grand Matron of “Hope Again for FCT Women in Politics,” Benjamins-Laniyi has been instrumental in encouraging and mentoring women in the political arena. Her profound understanding of the political landscape and her ability to navigate intricate policy challenges will undoubtedly contribute to the advancement of women’s rights and well-being in the FCT.
