Governor Alex Otti of Abia officially initiated the reconstruction of Aba’s Port Harcourt Road, a significant milestone in his commitment to revitalize the state’s economy and fulfill campaign promises.
The project aims to transform the road into a vibrant economic hub, attracting investors and supporting heavy-duty vehicle services and other industries. Governor Otti emphasized that this road, which had long suffered neglect, symbolizes Aba residents’ patience and determination for real transformation. He encouraged citizens to expect high-quality infrastructure and declared an end to subpar quality and mediocrity.
Furthermore, Otti stressed that this isn’t merely a superficial repair but a comprehensive road restoration project that addresses long-standing issues, particularly chronic flooding. With the expertise of Julius Berger, the project is designed to ensure long-lasting quality with minimal maintenance, supporting both existing and new businesses for at least two decades post-completion.
The initiative has undergone careful planning, involving rigorous technical design and specifications to ensure durability, reliability, and flood control.
The Inter-ministerial Committee selected the project and reviewed bids while assessing construction companies’ suitability, all parties agreeing on a delivery timeline not exceeding 18 months. Governor Otti expects all necessary efforts, including round-the-clock work, to meet this target.
