Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has issued a resolute warning to members of the academic community, underlining the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to taking severe actions against those involved in sexual harassment on university campuses.
This declaration came in Abuja on Thursday as he received the report on the alleged sexual harassment case involving Prof. Cyril Ndifo, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar.
Prof. Mamman emphasized that sexual harassment is a grave criminal offense that necessitates swift and decisive action whenever it rears its head. He pledged that the Ministry would leave no stone unturned in tackling this deeply concerning issue within higher education institutions.
He described sexual harassment as a cancerous problem that must be eradicated at all costs, emphasizing the urgency of a collective effort to address this matter within the education system.
Furthermore, the Minister assured that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups within the nation’s education system.
He made it clear that he intends to employ the full force of the law to ensure that wrongdoers face appropriate and stringent penalties, and that no one should be allowed to exploit those who are vulnerable.
Additionally, he disclosed plans to establish dedicated units to handle sexual offenses within the Ministry and across all higher education institutions, aiming to effectively combat this issue.
