House of Representatives Urges Collective Action to Support the Growth and Welfare of the Girl Child

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, have issued separate statements in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, calling for increased investment in girls’ education and well-being in Nigeria.

They stressed the collective responsibility of various stakeholders, including parents, educational institutions, religious bodies, traditional organizations, and the government, in ensuring the safety, education, and moral development of the girl child.

They also highlighted the role of education in enhancing the visibility of females in politics and fostering Nigeria’s economic growth.

This international day, observed on October 11, emphasizes the significance of girls’ rights and gender equality, with this year’s theme being ‘Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being.
