The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called for cooperation, collaboration, and technical assistance from the European Union (EU) to help the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) adopt global standards and best practices within the Police ecosystem.
This request was made during a meeting at the Ministry of Police Affairs headquarters in Abuja between the minister and a team from the EU, led by Ambassador Samuela Isopi, the European Ambassador to Nigeria.
The ministry’s spokesperson, Bolaji Kazeem, explained that the minister emphasized the need for partnership, especially in addressing policy gaps and providing capacity building to enhance the capabilities of the evolving Nigeria Police Force.
In her statement, the minister highlighted the importance of community-based policing driven by intelligence and technology, which is the prevailing global trend in law enforcement. She pointed out that the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (EUROPO) possesses considerable expertise in this area, and collaboration could yield significant results.
The minister expressed her desire for comprehensive support to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda, which includes policing components critical to the nation’s development. She mentioned ongoing efforts to harmonize various police reforms, identify reasons for their incomplete implementation, and develop achievable goals within a two to three-year timeframe.
