Senate Summons Security Chiefs Over Student Abduction in Katsina State

The upper chamber of the Senate has made a significant decision on Thursday following its deliberations regarding the recent abduction of five female students from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State on Wednesday.

Among those scheduled to be summoned are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar; Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun; and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

Senators have called upon security agencies to adopt a more proactive approach and ensure the prompt rescue of the abducted female students, as well as the corps members who were kidnapped by terrorists in Zamfara State.

They have also urged the military to conduct special operations to eliminate bandits not only in the North-West but also in other parts of the country. Additionally, they have emphasized the necessity of addressing the manpower shortage within the armed forces and police.

Furthermore, senators have stressed the importance of establishing state police as one of the viable solutions to the current security challenges in the nation. However, as of now, no specific date has been set for the planned meeting with the service chiefs.

In related news, at least five female students from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) in Katsina State were abducted by suspected terrorists. The Police Spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident and disclosed that one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the abduction. Investigations are ongoing with the aim of securing the release of the abducted individuals.
