Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, has formally inaugurated a new team of secretaries to serve in key roles within the Federal Capital Territory’s leadership structure.
Among the appointees is Charles Elechi, who has been officially sworn in as the Secretary responsible for Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership within the administration.
Several other individuals have also taken up their positions, including Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, overseeing the Health and Environmental Services secretariat; Uboku Nyah, in charge of the Transportation secretariat; Salman Dako, responsible for the Legal Services secretariat; and Bitrus Garki, leading the Area Council Services secretariat, among others.
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Wike urged these newly appointed officials to execute their responsibilities with unwavering dedication, a strong sense of urgency, and a selfless commitment to public service.
Before assuming this role, Charles Elechi, who has a legal background, held significant positions in Abia State, serving as the Commissioner for Agriculture and later as the Commissioner for Transport for two terms. Additionally, in 2015, he acted as a Special Adviser to a former governor in the state.
Minister Wike emphasized the importance of these newly inaugurated secretaries in advancing President Bola Tinubu’s vision to transform the Federal Capital Territory into a world-class Capital Territory.
A statement issued by Dr. Nnachi Okafor, the Head of Information at the Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership Secretariat of the FCTA, confirmed that Minister Wike conducted the inauguration in Abuja on Thursday night.
In his address, Minister Wike emphasized the significance of the tasks ahead and urged the secretaries to focus on various critical issues, including revenue generation, environmental sanitation, public health, infrastructure development, security, education, agriculture, food security, and the development of satellite towns.
Minister Wike particularly stressed the importance of addressing the challenges related to public transportation comprehensively, recognizing its pivotal role in the effective functioning of a modern city.
Furthermore, he underscored the need for transparency and accountability in revenue generation and procurement processes to enhance the FCT’s internally generated revenue and eliminate financial inefficiencies.
Minister Wike concluded by highlighting the critical need for funding to support the ambitious development projects and initiatives planned for the Federal Capital Territory.
