The Enugu State government has initiated a substantial revision of its existing laws and the introduction of new ones, aiming to position the state as the preferred destination for investments. This strategic move also focuses on reducing risks and expanding investment prospects.
Governor Peter Mbah’s administration places a high priority on establishing integrated smart schools across all 260 wards of the state. This transformation of the education sector aims to shift these institutions from being merely providers of social services to centers for skill acquisition.
Dr. Kingsley Udeh, the state’s attorney-general and commissioner for justice, and Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, the commissioner for education, briefed the press following the State Executive Council meeting. They encouraged investors to take advantage of the recently enacted Enugu State Electricity Law 202Udehl
Udeh explained that the State Executive Council has made the decision to conduct comprehensive revisions of laws to enhance the state’s appeal to investors.
“Enugu State is poised to become the preferred destination for both domestic and foreign investments. To ensure this objective is aggressively pursued, the Enugu State Government is currently in the process of revising various laws related to investment, trade, and industry.
The Enugu State Electricity Law, 2023, which was enacted today, will open up the Enugu electricity market to both domestic and international investors in the energy sector. This move is intended to bolster power generation, transmission, and distribution, thereby supporting our industries, business activities, and boosting our economy. We encourage investors to seize the opportunities presented by this law.
However, we are also committed to reviewing our legal framework and improving our justice system because we recognize that a strong judicial system is a critical factor for investment and business.
Investors seek assurance that in the event of disputes, the judicial system is robust and capable of delivering swift justice, with judgments that are enforceable. This is a priority for the government,” he emphasized.
