President Bola Tinubu has urged for a thorough and in-depth investigation into the recurring and heart-wrenching boat accidents happening throughout the country. This directive is outlined in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Tinubu emphasized that government agencies would be held responsible for any lapses in regulatory or safety standards. He called for the strict implementation of comprehensive safety measures and the robust enforcement of these measures within the domain of boating activities nationwide.
In an effort to uncover the underlying causes of these unfortunate and avoidable disasters, the President has instructed various government agencies, including those responsible for law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety, to collaborate closely.
President Tinubu expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims who tragically lost their lives in recent boat accidents in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger and Gurin village in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa.
Ngelale, in the statement, stated, “The President has directed various government agencies, including law enforcement, maritime safety, and transportation safety authorities, to work closely together in identifying the root causes of these unfortunate and preventable disasters.”
Furthermore, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to holding government agencies accountable for any regulatory or safety oversights. He also called for a comprehensive review of safety measures and the rigorous enforcement of existing laws pertaining to boating activities in the country.
