Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Offers Reassurance on National Values and Orientation

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has provided assurance to Nigerians that the current administration will persist in formulating policies aimed at fostering national values and orientation among the populace.

This commitment was articulated in a statement released by Suleiman Haruna, the Deputy Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

He conveyed this commitment while addressing attendees at a significant reception organized by the Niger State Government to honor prominent political figures from the state on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

In his address, he implored state governments to lend their support to the Federal Government’s initiative of reorienting Nigerians, emphasizing that such support is vital for meaningful development to occur.

The Minister also touched upon the ongoing distribution of relief measures across various states, emphasizing that this effort will persist until the hardships resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies are effectively alleviated.

He underscored the Federal Government’s awareness of the people’s needs and highlighted the implementation of an 8-point agenda designed to address key socio-economic challenges and generate employment opportunities for the youth.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, in his remarks, congratulated individuals who had secured political positions at both the federal and state levels and urged them to serve as exemplary representatives of the state.

He commended the Federal Government’s plans to alleviate citizens’ suffering and pledged that state governors would play their part in ensuring the effective distribution of relief measures to their intended recipients. Furthermore, he emphasized Niger State’s potential in agriculture, citing its extensive arable land as a valuable asset in realizing the Federal Government’s vision of greater prosperity for Nigerians.

The event drew significant attendance from Nigerians across various political affiliations, including prominent figures from traditional institutions within the state.

Meanwhile, the Minister paid courtesy visits to two former heads of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar. During these visits, he emphasized the cultural significance of honoring elder statesmen and expressed gratitude for their longstanding contributions to the country. He also relayed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s determination to restore Nigeria to a path of greatness.

General Abdulsalami congratulated President Tinubu’s administration on reaching its 100-day milestone and extended his well wishes to the Hon. Minister for his appointment. He acknowledged the challenges facing the government, including economic issues, fuel subsidies, and security concerns, and called for unity and collaboration between the government and the Nigerian people to overcome these challenges.

In response to media inquiries, the Hon. Minister highlighted that elder statesmen traditionally advocate for peace and unity, and they have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in promoting peace and stability in Nigeria. He emphasized President Tinubu’s emphasis on harnessing Nigeria’s diversity for prosperity and development, recognizing the country’s rich and varied heritage as a valuable asset for national progress.
