The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal, in a significant decision on Wednesday, invalidated the proclaimed victory of Senator Abubakar Ohere in the Kogi Central senatorial election.
In a pivotal ruling, the Tribunal Chairman, Justice K. A. Orjiako, representing the unanimous decision of the three-member panel, stated that Sen. Ohere’s victory was tainted by irregularities.
It was revealed that the results in nine polling units of Ajaokuta Local Government Area (LGA) had been inflated to his advantage, while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had intentionally reduced Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan’s results in those very areas. Furthermore, the tribunal found that three polling units’ results had been deliberately omitted from Natasha’s tally in the same LGA.
After meticulous correction of these discrepancies, the court rightfully declared Natasha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the true winner of the election. She secured 54,074 votes, surpassing Ohere of the APC, who garnered 51,291 votes, according to the revised figures.
