In a significant development, Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu, has opted to withdraw the lawsuit he had filed at the Federal High Court.
This legal action aimed to thwart alleged plans by Governor Godwin Obaseki to remove him from office. The decision to withdraw the lawsuit was reached following constructive mediation by concerned citizens of Edo.
Shuaibu formally referenced the lawsuit with the case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1027/2023, which had named the Inspector General of Police, State Security Service, the Governor of Edo State, and the Chief Judge of Edo State as defendants.
In a circular dated September 5, 2023, Shuaibu announced his decision to withdraw the suit, citing a series of deliberations that involved himself, Governor Obaseki, and influential figures from Edo State, along with well-respected Nigerians. These discussions included party leaders, traditional rulers, and the Archbishop of the Benin Archdiocese of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze.
In expressing his gratitude, Shuaibu extended his appreciation to these esteemed individuals for their counsel, support, and encouragement in the pursuit of peace and unity in Edo State.
