Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has officially endorsed the full implementation of the 2014 Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS) for the Association of Resident Doctors in the state.
This announcement was made during a media briefing on Sunday, September 3, 2023, as part of Governor Sani’s first 100 days in office.
The decision comes after extensive negotiations, spearheaded by a committee led by the Kaduna State Head of Service, which revealed disparities in the compensation received by resident doctors in different healthcare facilities within the state.
Beginning in September 2023, the approved 100% CONMESS will ensure parity in salaries for Resident Doctors in the Ministry of Health and those at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital.
Governor Sani believes that this adjustment will not only enhance productivity but also make Kaduna more appealing to medical professionals. Furthermore, he disclosed that the recruitment of 89 medical doctors, a move aimed at addressing staffing shortages identified in 2017, has been given the green light.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost doctors’ morale and improve access to quality healthcare for residents of Kaduna.
Governor Sani also highlighted his administration’s achievements, including fostering a business-friendly environment to attract investors and addressing incomplete projects from the previous administration.
He expressed gratitude to the security agencies and emphasized the urgency of effective policing while advocating for the establishment of a State Police Force to complement national security efforts.
Finally, Governor Sani thanked the people of Kaduna State for their trust and appealed for their continued support as his administration works tirelessly to leave a legacy of peace, ethnic and religious harmony, and inclusive development.
