Federal Government Appeals to NLC to Postpone Warning Strike

The federal government called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday to postpone its planned two-day nationwide warning strike set to commence on Tuesday.

Simon Lalong, the Minister of Labour and Employment, made this plea during a briefing with journalists in Abuja.

The organised labour is initiating the warning strike due to grievances that the federal government has not addressed critical issues affecting Nigerians and the consequences of fuel subsidy removal.

However, the minister stated that the government is actively working to address the concerns of the labour movement and the Nigerian people, and requested additional time to implement essential relief measures. He assured Nigerian workers of the government’s appreciation for their support and understanding.

While acknowledging that the ministry has yet to formally receive a strike notification from the NLC, as required by law, he indicated that more relief measures would be announced in the coming weeks.

He also emphasized that the strike would undo the progress made by the government in securing a better future for Nigerian workers and citizens, urging the NLC to reconsider and allow time for comprehensive resolution of the issues
