The ongoing saga surrounding unpaid allowances and entitlements for the Super Falcons has taken a new turn as the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee has summoned NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.
The committee, which is investigating the face-off between the Super Falcons and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has called for Gusau’s appearance on August 23rd, 2023.
Chairperson of the Committee, Blessing Onu, made this announcement during Wednesday’s session after NFF Secretary General, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, represented the NFF President due to his reported ill-health.
Onu highlighted that the NFF president was initially expected to appear before the ad-hoc committee on August 17th. However, she emphasized that the reasons provided for his absence were not as crucial as the matters being addressed by the committee.
Addressing the situation, Onu said, “This is not a matter we should take lightly. The Super Falcons’ achievements have made Nigerians proud, and we have a responsibility to address the issues surrounding their allowances and dues.”
Onu expressed her disappointment in the NFF president’s absence and the decision to send his Special Assistant as a representative. She emphasized that the committee’s focus was on resolving the matters at hand.
The clash between the Ad-hoc Committee and Ekene Adams, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Standing Committee, has raised concerns. Allegations have emerged that Adams instructed the NFF president not to attend the committee’s hearing, casting doubt on the cooperative spirit between the two entities.
