In a significant development, the Jigawa State House of Assembly has given the green light for Governor Umar Namadi to appoint fifty more special advisers, marking a notable expansion of the advisory team.
Speaker of the House, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, made this announcement on Wednesday following the submission of the governor’s formal request to appoint the additional fifty special advisers. This decision comes after a previous approval for the appointment of twenty-five advisers was granted by the House.
The Governor’s official letter to the House outlined the reasoning behind the request, stating, “In line with the provisions of Sections 96 (1) and (2) of Part II of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am writing to seek the consideration and approval of the State Legislature for the appointment of 50 Special Advisers of the Jigawa State Government.”
The governor’s prerogative to appoint special advisers is backed by Section 91 (1) of the constitution, which grants him the authority to select individuals who can assist in the effective performance of his functions. Additionally, Section 96 (2) mandates that the specific number of advisers must be determined through a resolution passed by the State Assembly.
This move is consistent with the state administration’s commitment to execute a range of multi-faceted socio-economic development projects outlined in the “Development for Greater Jigawa” 12-point agenda.
By granting this approval, the Jigawa State House of Assembly aims to contribute to the seamless and efficient functioning of the administration, ensuring that the governor receives well-informed advice to navigate the complexities of governance.
