Georgia Stanway, a player for England’s national team, expressed her surprise at the presence of fans waiting at the airport to welcome the Lionesses back from the World Cup final in Australia.
Despite the fans gathering in the terminal, the team bypassed the arrivals area, which is reportedly the customary procedure for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Stanway revealed that she only learned of the fans’ disappointment through social media after the incident. The players arrived at Heathrow airport on Tuesday morning following their 1-0 defeat by Spain on Sunday.
Speaking on ITV’s This Morning, Stanway acknowledged the desire to connect with fans but also recognized the FA’s responsibility in ensuring their well-being. She noted that the focus after the flight was on getting rest, and they aim to engage with fans through social media.
