New Humanitarian Affairs Minister Unveils Bold Plan to Uplift 133 Million Nigerians from Poverty

The newly inaugrated Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has unveiled an ambitious plan by the Federal Government to uplift 133 million Nigerians from poverty.

Edu shared this strategic vision during her inaugural day in office, as she engaged with the heads of agencies under her ministry. She stressed that achieving this substantial goal would necessitate a multifaceted approach, including various interventions and initiatives aimed at curbing the prevailing poverty rates.

“We are resolutely focused on the monumental task of elevating 133 million Nigerians out of poverty. Our approach will be gradual and methodical, fueled by unwavering determination and unwavering resolve,” Edu affirmed.

The National Bureau of Statistics had previously reported that a staggering 65 percent of Nigerians grapple with multidimensional poverty. Despite the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s commitment to lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty during his tenure, this target remained elusive.

Minister Edu has now taken the reins from Sadiya Umar Farouq to tackle the pressing poverty-related challenges that confront Nigerians across the nation.
