Vice President Shettima to Represent President Tinubu at 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa

Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima is scheduled to embark on a journey from Abuja to Johannesburg, South Africa, as announced by the Director of Information, Olusola Abiola.

The purpose of his travel is to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 15th BRICS Summit of Heads of State and Government.

Set to take place from August 22 to 24 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, the summit will gather prominent business and political figures from around the world. Notable attendees include South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, China’s President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Luiz Lula da Silva, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

An extensive guest list has been assembled, comprising seventy-three dignitaries. This includes individuals such as the United Nations Secretary-General, the chairperson of the African Union Commission, and the President of the New Development Bank.

During the summit, discussions will revolve around critical topics such as trade and investment facilitation, sustainable development, innovation, and the need for reform in global governance. The event also emphasizes its outreach to leaders from Africa and beyond, with a particular focus on global geopolitics, trade dynamics, and infrastructure development.

BRICS, representing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, stands as a vital alliance of major emerging and developing economies. This coalition holds significant global influence, encompassing more than 42% of the world’s population, 30% of its landmass, 23% of the global economy, and 18% of global trade.

The core principles of BRICS include advocating for a fair and representative restructuring of the global political, economic, and financial landscape based on multilateralism and international law.

Accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials, Vice President Shettima is expected to conclude his visit and return to the country by the end of the week.
