The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has issued a strong call to action for the Nigerian Army’s troops, urging them to stand firm in their resolve to bring the nation’s adversaries to their knees and restore stability in areas facing turmoil.

Lagbaja delivered this impassioned message on Wednesday during an assessment visit to Niger State, prompted by the troops’ recent engagement with insurgents in the Zungeru General Area, where some brave soldiers paid the ultimate price.

The statement, released by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, on Wednesday, highlighted that the COAS arrived in Minna, the capital of Niger State, late on Tuesday night. Nwachukwu further stated that Lagbaja promptly proceeded to the Forward Operating Base Erena in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, where he received a comprehensive briefing on the current security situation from the General Officer Commanding I Division, Maj.-Gen. Bamidele Alabi.

In his address to the troops, the COAS exhorted them to stand united and exhibit unwavering determination in the face of the nation’s adversaries, with the ultimate aim of restoring order in troubled regions. He underlined that the ongoing fight against insurgents and bandits was an entirely just cause, essential for safeguarding Nigeria and its citizens. He emphasized that the duty to protect lives and defend the nation is one of the noblest commitments an individual can undertake.

He stated, “You are all part of the esteemed profession of arms, and it is imperative that you do not allow your morale to falter. Our mission is to triumph over those who threaten our people and reclaim every inch of our land where they have sought refuge.”

Lagbaja offered assurances to the troops regarding his unwavering commitment to their well-being and that of their families. He pledged to ensure the best possible welfare, given the available resources. He emphasized that prioritizing the troops’ welfare was a cornerstone of his command’s principles.

Furthermore, he directed the immediate reinforcement of the troops with additional combat support, aimed at augmenting their operational capabilities and effectiveness in the field.
