Former Barcelona midfielder Deco is making a comeback to the club in the role of their new sporting director.

The 45-year-old Portugal international, originally from Brazil, has finalized a three-year agreement with the Nou Camp. Deco’s initial association with Barcelona began in 2004 when he transferred from Benfica.

During his four-season tenure, he secured two La Liga titles and notably clinched the 2006 Champions League. The current director of football at Barca, Mateu Alemany, is set to depart once the transfer window closes on 1 September.

Barcelona has confirmed that Deco will oversee their “sporting philosophy” and collaborate closely with manager Xavi and the entire coaching team.

The club has also revealed intentions to reorganize its internal structure, with specific plans to be disclosed in the approaching weeks.

This move follows the departure of former sporting director Jordi Cruyff in May. In addition to his stint in Spain, Deco also spent two seasons with Chelsea before returning to Brazil, concluding his playing career at Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro.
