House Committee Calls NFF Leadership to Account for Super Falcons’ FIFA-Money Crisis

Following the controversies trailing the payment of the Super Falcon’s Bonuses, The House of Representatives’ sports committee has called upon the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to appear before them and clarify their involvement in the FIFA-related financial crisis that affected the Super Falcons during the Women’s World Cup.

Despite the Super Falcons’ remarkable performance on the global women’s soccer stage, which garnered widespread acclaim, the team exited the competition in the round of 16 following a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to England.

Even prior to the commencement of the tournament, the team was grappling with unresolved issues concerning unpaid bonuses and allowances. Despite these challenges, the team chose to set them aside and concentrate on their World Cup duties. The situation gained significant attention on social media, with various football stakeholders urging the NFF to ensure the players receive their rightful entitlements. Unfortunately, this issue ended up negatively impacting the reputation of both the federation and Nigeria.

Recognizing the gravity of the matter, the House Committee on Sports has taken action by summoning the NFF leadership. The purpose of this summons is to provide an explanation for the team’s lack of payment since 2021. A hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday with the aim of finding a permanent resolution to the ongoing issue of outstanding bonuses owed to national teams.
