An accident occurred on Wednesday on Eko Bridge towards the Alaka area of Lagos State, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of two individuals and leaving five others with “serious injuries.” The collision involved six private vehicles, including a fully laden ‘MAC’ truck marked with registration number T-1501 LA.
The wounded individuals and the bodies of the deceased have been transported to a nearby General Hospital. A statement from Adebayo Taofiq, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reported that a male and a female lost their lives in the incident.
Based on initial investigations, the ‘MAC’ truck, which was traveling at high speed, collided with five other private vehicles, including a commercial mini bus commonly referred to as a ‘Korope.’ This collision occurred due to brake failure of the truck.
The six vehicles implicated in the tragic accident comprise a fully loaded truck (T-150 IL), a Lexus Jeep (LSP 795 EW), a Toyota Camry (AKD 606 HH), another Toyota (LND 217 GX), a mini-bus (FKJ 77 YG), and a (LSR 952 HZ).
In response to the incident, Bolaji Oreagba, the head of LASTMA, expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also urged all motorists, particularly truck drivers, to ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition before embarking on journeys within the state.
