Nigeria’s D’Tigress, the four-time champions of FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, have returned to their homeland from Kigali, Rwanda, the host city of the recently concluded 2023 Afrobasket Tournament.
The team arrived at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Sunday, having flown aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight. They received a warm welcome from officials of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, led by Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye, who heads the Federation, Elites, and Athletes Department (FEAD).
Remarkably, the D’Tigress maintained an exceptional performance throughout the tournament, winning every match en route to the final stage. Their outstanding run culminated in a victory over Senegal’s Taranga Lioness at Kigali’s GK Arena on Saturday, securing for them the coveted Gold Medal.
Under the guidance of Rena Wakama, the team’s achievements will be celebrated with a modest reception hosted by the Ministry later on the same Sunday.
