Zakari Jikantoro, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger, has stepped down from his position. He emphasized that his resignation was a voluntary choice made in the party’s best interests. He made this announcement in Minna on Friday, following a briefing to the state party executive members about the resolutions from the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

Jikantoro clarified that his decision was unrelated to the occurrences during the NEC meeting. He emphasized that his resignation was not influenced by the events that transpired both at the NEC meeting and within the state.

He also mentioned that Aminu Bobi, the zonal chairman, will serve as the interim party chairman until a new substantive chairman is elected.
