Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki’s attempt to impeach Deputy Governor Phillip Shuaib due to their irreconcilable differences has been temporarily blocked. The Federal High Court in Abuja issued an interim order on Friday to halt the proceedings. This order maintains the “Status Quo Ante Bellum,” meaning both parties must remain in their existing positions until further clarification is provided in a ruling set for August 10, 2023. Shuaib had filed a motion to stop his removal from office, citing constitutional concerns about Obaseki’s actions. The court’s decision prevents any harassment, intimidation, or interference with Shuaib’s duties.
