Military Chiefs from several West African countries have gathered in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, to discuss the political situation in Niger Republic. The high-powered delegation meeting is related to the recent coup in Niger. The meeting was called following the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) threat of military action in Niger. Gen. Christopher Musa, the chairman of ECOWAS military chiefs, is chairing the meeting. Chiefs from Togo, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, Liberia, Guinea, Gambia, Cote d’Ivoire, Cabo Verde, and the Republic of Benin have already arrived for the meeting.
During an emergency meeting in Abuja, ECOWAS leaders vowed to use maximum force, if necessary, to remove the military junta and reinstate the ousted Muhammad Bazoum as the president of Niger Republic.
