The Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives, consisting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), is currently holding a meeting with representatives from the Federal Government at the Chief of Staff Conference Hall in Aso Rock, Abuja.

This meeting comes after the organized labour representatives left a previous meeting last Friday, expressing their dissatisfaction with the absence of high-ranking government officials available for negotiations.

The purpose of both the previous unsuccessful meeting and the ongoing one is to assess the progress made by three subcommittees: the mass transit committee, the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) committee, and the cash transfer committee. These committees are working on implementing the government’s proposed plans to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal.

Present at the meeting are NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, TUC leader Festus Osifo, NLC General Secretary Comrade Emma Ugbaja, and TUC Secretary Nuhu Toro, along with other members of the organized labour delegation, including Prof. Sam Amadi.

On the government’s side, attendees include the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, the CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, and the President’s Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen, among others.
