Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has given his approval for the payment of an additional instalment of the half-salary debt, which will be disbursed along with the state workers’ salaries for July.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, made this announcement in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Saturday. This marks the third occasion on which Adeleke has honoured the commitment to pay the half-salary debt quarterly, as per the template set earlier in the year.
Rasheed reiterated that during the electioneering campaign, Adeleke had promised to address the salary debt by making payments in instalments. He also highlighted that the current administration inherited a significant sum of approximately N26 billion in half salary debt and around N50 billion in pension-related debt from the previous government.
In response to the payment, Governor Adeleke restated his dedication to faithfully implementing the template for clearing the inherited salary debt. He emphasized that the template was formulated through a consensus among all stakeholders to find a sustainable solution to the half-salary burden.
Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke assured the workers of Osun State that the payment process is progressing as planned. Despite facing fiscal challenges, the government is prioritizing the welfare of the workers by fulfilling its commitment to pay off the inherited debt in instalments.
He reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering focus on human development, alongside efforts to upgrade infrastructure and foster local economic development. As a government that serves the people, by the people, and for the people, the governor expressed determination to strike a balance between the needs of the workers and the overall development of the state.
