Imo State Governor Increases Minimum Wage to N40,000

In order to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal, Governor Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has authorized the payment of a new minimum wage of N40,000 for civil servants in the state. The governor made this announcement during a recent address to the State Executive Council, religious leaders, and other important stakeholders in Imo at Rockview Hotels Owerri. He acknowledged that the current economic situation, resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy, is significantly burdening the people.

Additionally, he unveiled several other relief measures, including the restructuring of workers’ salary system, a 10 percent increment in the minimum wage, the implementation of a daily free meal and free medical treatment for all state employees, as well as the provision of additional free buses for Imo workers.
