Federal Government Affirms Suitability of 9,000 Filling Stations for Autogas Co-location

The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) has released a statement confirming that there are more than 9,000 authorized filling stations nationwide that meet the requirements for accommodating facilities dispensing autogas fuel. This information was disclosed during a stakeholders’ engagement forum focused on the development and promotion of autogas as a transportation fuel in Nigeria, with the conference centering around the theme of “Autogas as an alternative fuel for Transportation in Nigeria.”

According to the communiqué, there are currently 50 conversion centers in the country undergoing upgrades to facilitate mass conversion and technician training. The conference emphasized the importance of exploring alternative options for transportation fuels, including Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), collectively referred to as Autogas, which should be widely adopted as a viable automotive fuel.
