The Lagos State Government, operating through the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), remains resolute in its efforts to eliminate the sale of alcohol and street trading in restricted areas.
The government has expressed its determination to sustain the ongoing enforcement operations as part of a renewed campaign to rid the Lagos metropolis of these detrimental activities.
In a recent statement by the Corps Marshal of LAGESC, CP Gbemisola Akinpelu (retired), it was emphasized that street trading on roadsides, pedestrian bridges, setbacks, medians, and hawking on major highways are clear violations of the state’s environmental laws. Such actions have been deemed illegal by the established legislation.
Akinpelu conveyed the Agency’s unwavering commitment to cracking down on all environmental offenders, with a specific focus on those involved in the sale of alcohol in Lagos parks and garages.
She stressed that LAGESC’s enforcement efforts would be intensified, leaving no room for street traders and hawkers to evade the law within the state.
Furthermore, Akinpelu highlighted the positive outcomes of the ongoing enforcement actions against alcohol hawkers in the state’s parks and garages.
The Agency has made numerous arrests and successfully prosecuted offenders, leading to sentences handed down by the courts. These developments signify the effectiveness of LAGESC’s operations in tackling this issue.
