Tension erupted at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday as Justice James Omotosho took a significant step against police lawyer Ibrahim Mohammed.Â
Justice Omotosho handed Mohammed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his involvement in filing an eight-count criminal charge against Senator Stella Oduah without the necessary authorization from the anti-graft agency.
The previous day, the Federal Government had lodged an eight-count charge against Oduah at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The charge, filed on June 26, 2023, at the Federal High Court in Abuja Judicial Division, was prepared by Ochugwu Ogbeh Esq. and Ibrahim Mohammed Esq. from the Legal and Prosecution Department of the EFCC in Benin, Edo state.
Oduah, a former lawmaker, stands as the sole defendant in this case, which alleges various offenses, including the false claim of losing her National Youth Service Corps certificate. Notably, in May 2022, the NYSC disclosed in a letter (marked NYSC/DHQ/PPRU/783/Vol III) that Oduah had not completed the mandatory one-year NYSC program, following an inquiry by a group known as the Concerned Anambra North PDP Stakeholders.
The NYSC stated that Oduah had initiated the program in 1982 but subsequently abandoned it. The agency also denied any collaboration between Oduah and the former aviation minister to conceal this truth.
