Speaker Abbas Unveils Principal Officers of the House of Representatives

Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, officially introduced the principal officers for the house on Tuesday.

As customary, BusinessDay provides an overview of the profiles of the newly appointed principal officers. Here are the principal officers in the House of Representatives, listed from the top to the bottom:

Bello Kumo – Chief Whip Usman Bello Kumo, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), represents the Akko federal constituency of Gombe State in the House of Representatives. He currently chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs, a position he previously held in the Seventh Assembly. Kumo has also served as the Chairman of Akko Local Government Area and has been elected to this position twice. He was born in Kumo, which serves as the headquarters of the Akko Local Government Area. Kumo is affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was the sole candidate from the party in Gombe State to secure re-election in the 2023 general election.

Julius O. Ihonvbere – APC, House Majority Leader Julius O. Ihonvbere, a Nigerian professor, was born in Oyo, in the former Western Region. He received his education at CMS Primary School in Oyo, St. John’s CAC School in Warri, and Edo Boys High School in Ugbowo, Benin City, where he obtained the West African School Certificate. Ihonvbere pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Combined Honors in history and political science at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University).
