Quincy Promes, a former player for the Netherlands national team, has been given an 18-month prison sentence for stabbing his cousin.Â
The 31-year-old striker, who currently represents Spartak Moscow in Russia, was taken into custody in December 2020 in relation to the incident that occurred in July of the same year.
The Dutch court determined that Promes was guilty of assault, but did not find evidence to support charges of attempted murder or manslaughter, as reported by ESPN.
In addition to the prison sentence, Promes has been ordered to pay €7,000 [£5,973] as compensation to the victim.
