The Oyomesi, the traditional kingmakers, have selected 65 candidates from a pool of 198 applicants for the vacant Alaafin of Oyo throne, which became vacant just 14 months after the passing of the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III. Led by Baba Iyaji, the Oyomesi conducted interviews with the shortlisted 65 candidates. In an interview with reporters in Ibadan over the weekend, Prince Ajibade Adeladan, a US-based medical practitioner and one of the candidates, stated that he actively participated in all the processes coordinated by the Oyomesi. He further mentioned that the interviewed candidates are presently awaiting the final approval from Governor Seyi Makinde regarding the selection of the next Alaafin of Oyo.
