Jade Osiberu’s ‘Brotherhood’ Triumphs as Best Movie in West Africa at AMVCA 2023

The Nigerian crime-action thriller film, Brotherhood, has emerged as the winner of the Best Movie in West Africa category at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2023.

The film, produced by Jade Osiberu and features a star-studded cast including Tobi Bakre, Boma Akpore, Falz, Basketmouth, Sam Dede, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Toni Tones, Zubby Micheal, Mr Macaroni, and others, was released in African cinemas on September 23, 2022. It premiered simultaneously in several African countries, including Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger Republic, Senegal, Congo, Rwanda, Gabon, Guinea, and Madagascar.

In addition, renowned Nigerian producer and director Kunle Afolayan received the AMVCA 2023 award for Best Indigenous Language (Yoruba) for his film Anikulapo. Anikulapo garnered 16 nominations, making it one of the top contenders at the awards ceremony, followed by Brotherhood and Shanty Town with 11 nominations each. Other notable films in the Best Overall Movie category included Femi Adebayo’s King of Thieves (Agesinkole), Funke Akindele’s Battle on Buka Street, Jade Osiberu’s Brotherhood, Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo, Kayode Kasum’s Ile Owo, Mugisha Morris’ Tembele, and Winifred Mena-Ajakpovi’s Four Four Forty-Four.

The ongoing 9th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards took place at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The prestigious event, regarded as one of the biggest entertainment gatherings in Africa, welcomed numerous stars who graced the vibrant black carpet. Toke Makinwa, Uti Nwachukwu, Sika Osei, and VJ Adams hosted the black carpet, entertaining the celebrities in attendance.

As customary, viewers had the opportunity to vote for the best-dressed male and female celebrities of the night. The event was co-hosted by popular Nigerian TV and radio host IK Osakioduwa and Miss Universe 2019, South African Zozi Tunzi.
