Troops from the 21 Armoured Brigade, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, have reportedly discovered a large underground armoury belonging to the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) in the Sambisa Forest of Borno state.
The discovery was made following the invasion of the Ukuba camp on the fringes of Bama LGA over the weekend. Among the items found were various types of weapons, such as rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) tubes, SMG rifles, double-barrel guns, and hand grenades, which were concealed in pits.
Also found were materials used in making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), detonators, and canister bombs. Additionally, 183 Shilka rounds were recovered. One suspected member of the terrorist group was killed, and an AK47 rifle and other items were seized from him.
The military reports that troops are making significant progress in their fight against the terrorists in the Sambisa-Timbuktu Triangle and the shores of Lake Chad, and have cleared terrorist hideouts in several areas.
