The Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has completed a training program for 80 farmers in the southern part of the country.
The program aimed to educate farmers on new farming techniques for maize cultivation and increase crop production in the South East, South South, and South West regions.
The two-day training session in Enugu also aimed to build farmers’ capacity in climate change adaptation and improve their production. The FMARD’s state coordinator, Peter Nwaogor, explained that the training would help bridge gaps identified in the performance of extension agents and enhance the livelihoods of rural dwellers.
The program manager of Enugu State Agriculture Development Program, Dr. Ogbonna Onyisi, added that the training was a federal government program aimed at enhancing maize production, reducing costs and creating jobs in the southern part of the country.
