Sofyan Amrabat is the favourite option to replace Sergio Busquets as Barcelona plan for life without their long-serving club captain, writes Spanish outlet Sport.
Busquets, 34, confirmed on Wednesday that he will depart the club when his contract expires at the end of the current season. He has not yet finalised his next move amid interest from Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Barca, meanwhile, have started to explore the market for potential replacements, with Fiorentina’s Amrabat and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves two names doing the rounds.
Sport reports that Amrabat, who shone at the World Cup with Morocco, is the Catalan clubs first choice for the pivot role, but much will rely on their transfer budget this summer. Neves, represented by agent Jorge Mendes, has also been offered to the club, but the club’s hierarchy aren’t convinced he has the right profile for the No. 6 role.
