Erling Haaland, the striker for Manchester City, has broken the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season. He achieved this feat by scoring his 35th league goal in a match against West Ham, surpassing the previous record of 34 goals held jointly by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole. Haaland had already set a new high in a 38-game season, exceeding Mohamed Salah’s 32 goals for Liverpool in 2017-18.
Although Shearer and Cole played in seasons with 22 teams in the top flight, giving them four extra matches to play, Haaland has broken the overall record in just 31 games of his debut season in English football. With five games remaining in the season, Haaland has the opportunity to add to his impressive goal tally provided he remains fit.
