Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has restated his commitment to maintaining the four new emirates created by his administration. During the 2023 Workers’ Day celebration held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano on Monday, Ganduje declared that the four emirates are symbols of unity, progress, and the well-being of the people.
The governor’s statement came in response to recent remarks by Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), who said in a viral video that the incoming government of Abba Yusuf would review the balkanization of the Kano emirate.
However, Ganduje insisted that the four new emirates are permanent and have brought development to the regions they represent. He also vowed to pray for God’s protection over the emirates, even after his administration leaves office. The creation of the new emirates has been a contentious issue in Kano since 2020, with some supporting the move and others opposing it.
